Bags from Toyooka. A production area that continues on from willow craft, it makes most of Japan's bags.
About this place
Toyooka Kaban (Toyooka Kaban) is bags produced in Toyooka, Hyogo Prefecture. Its roots are in the willow trunks (Toyooka Kiryu craft) that have continued since the Nara period. In November 2006 (Heisei 18), it was certified as a regional brand under the regional collective trademark system introduced by the Japan Patent Office. In the Toyooka Basin spreading along the lower Maruyama River, willow trunks (Toyooka Kiryu craft) woven from the Koriyanagi willow that grows wild along the Maruyama River have been made since the Nara period, and in the late Edo period it was established as the Kiryu industry with the encouragement of the Toyooka Domain.
