About this place
Sogen Shuzo Co., Ltd. (English name: Sogen Sake Brewery Co., Ltd.) is a sake maker (brewery) in Sogen, Hodatsu-machi, Suzu, Ishikawa Prefecture. The founding family descends from Hatakeyama Yoshiharu, of the Noto Hatakeyama clan, who were military governors of Noto Province. In the 5th year of Tensho (1577), Yoshiharu, who had been lord of Nanao Castle, came under attack from Uesugi Kenshin, fled with his clan to Suzu and changed his name to Sogen. He started the brewery in the 5th year of Meiwa (1768).
