About this place
Sendai-hira is a silk fabric made in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. From the Edo period to the Meiji period it was known as the finest hakama cloth, but as demand for hakama fell its output decreased, and now the only maker of Sendai-hira is Sendai-hira Limited Partnership Company. A traditional craft designated by the Governor of Miyagi Prefecture (designated in 1985). An Important Intangible Cultural Property (designated in 2002, designated name "Seiko Sendai-hira"). It is a very sturdy fabric that does not wrinkle easily, and the luster peculiar to silk and its pleasant feel are the characteristics of Sendai-hira.
