About this place
Castella Honke Fukusaya Co., Ltd. is a Japanese castella maker with its head office in Nagasaki, Nagasaki Prefecture. In 1624 (Kanei 1), the first Fukusaya (a trading merchant who dealt in sugar and rice) began making nanban sweets such as castella, which he learned directly from the Portuguese, and devised Nagasaki castella. Through the fifth generation it was sold in Hikichimachi (now Sakuramachi and Kenzenmachi). In 1775 (Anei 4, Hitsuji year), under the sixth head, Ichiryoji, also known as Daisuke, the shop moved to Funadaikumachi, near Maruyama and the Tojin Yashiki in the city.
