Overview
Muhyo Shuzo in Nagasaki. It distills shochu.
About this place
Muhyo Shuzo is a liquor-making company in Nagasaki, Nagasaki Prefecture. As of 2025, it is the only sake brewery in Nagasaki. Founded at the end of the Meiji period, it had brewed shochu in Shimabara, but it lost its factory and offices in the debris flow disaster from Mount Unzen Fugen in May 1991. The president at the time of the disaster also died, and it gave up rebuilding in Shimabara. It looked for a new site in the Sotome district of Nagasaki, near areas that grow sweet potatoes, the raw material for sweet potato shochu, and built a new brewery in Kanoura Natsuicho in that district.
