About this place
The Shimonoseki Municipal Shimonoseki Aquarium (nicknamed Kaikyokan) is an aquarium in Karato Wharf, in the Karato district of Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture. It opened on 1 April 2001 (Heisei 13). It is managed and operated by the Shimonoseki Marine Science Academy, a public interest incorporated foundation, under the designated manager system.
