About this place
Sanko Inari Shrine is a shrine in Inuyama, Aichi. Like Harutsuna Shrine and Inuyama Shrine, it is near the southern castle entrance of Inuyama Castle. The founding date is unknown. It once stood on Mount Sanko, under the protection of Oda Nobuyasu, lord of Inuyama Castle. From the Edo period it was regarded as the guardian deity of the Naruse clan, lords of Inuyama Castle. Through Shinto-Buddhist syncretism it was also called Sankoji, and became Sanko Inari Shrine through the separation of Shinto and Buddhism in the early Meiji era. In 1964 (Showa 39) it moved to its present site (west of Harutsuna Shrine).
