About this place
Jimokuji is a Shingon sect Chizan school temple in Ama, Aichi (formerly Jimokuji, Ama District). Its mountain name is Hoosan. Urube Shrine (Hachidai Myojin-sha) formerly stood here as its guardian shrine, but the precincts were divided after the Shinto-Buddhist separation order. The name of the town of Jimokuji comes from the name of this temple. Popularly called "Jimokuji Kannon", it is often called by this popular name rather than its formal name. The principal image is Sho Kannon. It is a hidden Buddha 1 shaku 1 sun 5 bu tall, and is the inner Buddha of the Juichimen Kannon statue enshrined in the main hall (a hidden Buddha shown once every 50 years). It is Temple No. 5 of the Tokai Thirty-Six Fudo pilgrimage.
