About this place
Fukagawa Shrine is a shrine in Fukagawacho, Seto, Aichi. It is an Engishiki-listed shrine identified with "Fukagawa Shrine" in Yamada District, Owari Province, in the Engishiki register of deities. Until the Edo period it was called Hachioji and was the tutelary shrine of Seto Village. According to the shrine's tradition, it was founded in 771 by enshrining a heavenly deity. A horizontal-entrance round burial mound lies on the grounds. Amano Nobukage identified it with "Fukagawa Shrine" in Yamada District in the Engishiki register of deities, and this is now the accepted view. According to the Owari Junko-ki, there is a small stream called Irikawa east of the shrine, which was anciently called "Fukagawa".
