Overview
Said to be the oldest shrine in Hachinohe and the centre of the Sansha Taisai. The festival is UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
About this place
Ogami Shrine (Ogami Jinja) stands in Uchimaru, Hachinohe, Aomori. It was the chief guardian shrine of the former Hachinohe Domain of Mutsu Province and is said to be the oldest shrine in the city. Its recorded history goes back about 1,000 years to the late Heian period, and tradition suggests it goes back even further. Its correct name is Horyozan Ogami Shrine, and it is also commonly called Horyo Shrine or Horyozan.
