About this place
Makata Shrine is a shrine in Daikata, Narita, Chiba Prefecture. It is a shrine listed in the Engishiki, and its former shrine rank was village shrine. It is the head shrine of the "Eighteen Makata Shrines" in Inba District and City. According to the shrine's tradition, on the last day of the 6th month of the 42nd year of Emperor Keiko (113 CE), Yamato Takeru, then on his eastern campaign, visited this land, hung a mirror on the trunk of a cedar and said, "If you revere this mirror as the Inbanokunitama Okitsukagami and enshrine it, the five grains will be abundant," and worshipped the great deity of Ise from afar. This is said to be the origin of the shrine.
