About this place
Tokyo Bay Kannon is a Kannon statue in Futtsu, Chiba. The Buddhist sculptor Hasegawa Ko is its original designer. Standing on the summit of Mount Otsubo almost at the center of the city, facing the entrance to Tokyo Bay, it is 56 meters tall and was erected in 1961 by Usami Masae for the purpose of praying for peace and consoling the war dead. Today the Kannon statue and its facilities are owned, managed and operated by the Tokyo Bay Kannon Church, an independent religious corporation.
