About this place
Ishizuchi Shrine (Ishizuchi-jinja) is a shrine in Saijo, Ehime Prefecture. It takes Mt. Ishizuchi, the highest peak in western Japan, as its sacred mountain, and is the collective name for four shrines: the main shrine (Kuchi-no-miya) at the foot of the mountain, Jojusha (Naka-no-miya) on the mountainside together with the Tsuchigoya worship hall, and Chojosha at the summit. Its former rank was prefectural shrine, and it is now a Beppyo Shrine of the Association of Shinto Shrines. Called the head shrine of Mt. Ishizuchi, it is also the head shrine of the religious corporation Ishizuchi Honkyo. Its crest is the character for "stone" in a circle.
