About this place
Nyohoji is a temple of the Rinzai sect, Myoshinji school, in Ozu, Ehime Prefecture. Its mountain name is Fujisan. The principal image is Shaka Nyorai. The temple was founded in 1669 (Kanbun 9), established by Kato Yasuoki, lord of the Ozu domain, with Bankei Yotaku as founding priest, and from then on became the family temple of the lords of Ozu. In the Edo period it had many branch temples. It is one of the three great training halls of Bankei, along with Ryumonji in Harima and Korinji in Edo.
