About this place
Enzoji is a Rinzai-sect Myoshinji-branch temple in Yanaizu, Yanaizu-machi, Kawanuma District, Fukushima. Its mountain name is Reiganzan. The principal image is Kokuzo Bosatsu. The Kokuzo Hall of this temple is known as 'Yanaizu Kokuzo' and, together with Muramatsusan Kokuzo Hall (Tokai, Ibaraki) and Kongoshoji (Ise, Mie), is counted as one of Japan's Three Great Kokuzo. It is also called 'Fukuman Kokuzo'. The Nanukado Hadaka Mairi (naked pilgrimage) is held every year on January 7. It has been selected as one of the 30 Sounds of Utsukushima as 'the sound of the bell sinking into the dusk at Enzoji and Okunoin'.
