About this place
Soma Nakamura Shrine is a shrine located in Nakamura, Soma, Fukushima. Its alternative name is Myoken Nakamura Shrine, though it is sometimes shortened to Nakamura Shrine. Its deity is Ame no Minakanushi no Kami (Myoken Bosatsu). The departure ceremony of the Soma Nomaoi is held here. The origin of Soma Nakamura Shrine is said to be that Taira no Masakado, the founder of the Soma clan, built a Myoken shrine in Sarushima District, Shimosa Province, during the Johei era (931 - 937). It was built when the Soma clan went down to Soma District.
