About this place
Odaka Castle was a Japanese castle (hirayama-jiro) in Odaka Ward, Minamisoma, Fukushima (Odaka, Namekata District, Mutsu Province under the ritsuryo provinces). Its alternative name is "Kobaizan Ukifune Castle". It is a Fukushima Prefecture designated historic site. It was built during the Nanboku-cho period to counter the Southern Court forces led by Kitabatake Akiie, and fell once in 1336 under the Kenmu government when it was attacked. The following year, 1337, the castle was retaken, and it was then the seat of the Soma clan for about 260 years, until the 16th head Soma Yoshitane moved the main castle to Ushikoshi Castle and Nakamura Castle.
