About this place
Kiryu Tenmangu is a shrine (Tenmangu) in Tenjincho, Kiryu, Gunma. It stands at the start of Honmachi-dori, the central street of the Kiryu townscape formed in the early modern period, and Kiryu Tenmangu and the surrounding area have been selected as the Kiryu Shinmachi Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. It is regarded as the chief guardian shrine of Kiryu, and its former shrine rank was prefectural shrine. The shrine buildings are designated Important Cultural Properties of Japan. Because Kiryu has many high schools, many worshippers visit during the exam season.
