Overview
The guardian of Kusatsu Onsen, said to enshrine Yamato Takeru.
About this place
Shirane Shrine is a shrine in Kusatsu, Agatsuma District, Gunma. It is the chief guardian shrine of Kusatsu, known for Kusatsu Onsen. It stands very close to the north of Yubatake, the center of the hot spring area, adjoining Kakoiyama Park. The founding is unknown, but its direct origin is thought to be the Shugendo faith (Shirane Myojin) in Kusatsu-Shirane, to the west, and an inner shrine is still placed on Mount Kusatsu-Shirane today.
