About this place
Daiganji is a Koyasan Shingon-sect temple in Miyajimacho, Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima Prefecture. Its mountain name is Kikyosan. Its sub-temple name is Hokoin. The principal image is Yakushi Nyorai. The main hall enshrines many Buddhist statues, including a Benzaiten statue moved from Itsukushima Shrine under the order separating Shinto and Buddhism (a hidden image shown each year on June 17). The founding date of this temple is unknown. According to the temple's records it was opened by Kukai in the early Heian period, but another theory holds that it was opened by Ryokai in the Kennin era (1201-1204) in the early Kamakura period.
