About this place
Yamanoue Daijingu is a shrine in Funamicho, Hakodate, Hokkaido (at the northern foot of Mount Hakodate). Its former shrine rank was village-district shrine (gosha). Its principal deities are Amaterasu Sume Omikami and Toyouke Omikami, and the deities described below are enshrined together with them. According to the shrine's tradition, it began in the Oan era (1368 - 75), when a mountain ascetic called Fujibo enshrined a divided spirit of Ise Jingu in Kameda Akagawa Village, in what is now the outskirts of Hakodate.
