The Somei Yoshino cherry tree on the grounds is the reference tree for Muroran City. Honda Wake no Mikoto 1869 (Meiji 2): On August 15 (lunar calendar), a divided spirit was enshrined from Hakodate Hachimangu as the "Muroran District Chief Guardian Shrine", and the shrine was founded at the present Sakimori Shrine in Sakimoricho in the city.
