About this place
Utasu Shrine is a shrine in Kanazawa, Ishikawa. It is one of the Kanazawa Five Shrines (the collective name for five shrines that have stood in Kanazawa since the Edo period). It was founded in 718 (Yoro 2). In 1599 (Keicho 4) Maeda Toshiie was secretly enshrined here, and domain retainers bore the costs of the rites according to their stipends. When Oyama Shrine was founded, the original deity, Takamimusuhi no Kami, was moved here. Utasu Shrine is popularly called Bishamon-san.
