About this place
Fuba Hachimangu is a shrine in Fuba, Shimanto, Kochi Prefecture. Its former shrine rank was prefectural shrine. Its other names are 'Sho Hachiman' and 'Hirohata Hachimangu'. It stands on a small hill in the south of the former city of Nakamura, overlooking the Shimanto River. The main deities are the following three. Ichijo Norifusa, the founder of the Tosa Ichijo clan, fled to this place (Hata Estate), where the Ichijo family had an estate, to escape the Onin War. Norifusa transferred the deity of Iwashimizu Hachimangu in Yamashiro Province as the chief guardian shrine of Hata District, and built the Hachimangu in the Bunmei era (1469-1487) in the middle of the Muromachi period, which was the founding of this shrine.
