About this place
Wakamiya Hachimangu is a shrine in Kochi, Kochi Prefecture. Its former shrine rank was prefectural shrine. Its crest is the 'marimomoe' (ball-shaped tomoe). The three Munakata goddesses (Ichikishimahime no Mikoto, Tagitsuhime no Mikoto, Tagorihime no Mikoto) According to the Kamakura-period history 'Azuma Kagami', in 1185 (Bunji 1), the year he defeated the Taira clan, Minamoto no Yoritomo transferred the deity of Iwashimizu Hachimangu to the site of the residence of his grandfather Minamoto no Tameyoshi at Rokujo in Kyoto and founded Rokujo Wakamiya Hachimangu. At that time the whole of Agawa District in Tosa Province was made the sacred domain of Rokujo Wakamiya Hachimangu, and for its protection a branch Wakamiya Hachimangu was also enshrined here on December 30 of the same year.
