About this place
Chionji is a temple of the Rinzai school, Myoshinji branch, at 466 Monju, Miyazu, Kyoto Prefecture. Its mountain name is Tenkyozan. The precinct lies within the Special Place of Scenic Beauty designation of Amanohashidate. In April 2017 it was certified as one of the cultural properties making up the Japan Heritage "Tango Chirimen Corridor." It has long been known as a sacred site of Monju worship and is the subject of the noh play Kuse no To.
