About this place
Kashimamiko Shrine is a shrine located in Ishinomaki, Miyagi. Its former shrine rank was prefectural shrine. It is one of the 100 seats of Mutsu Province among the Engishiki-listed shrines. It enshrines two deities, father and son: Takemikazuchi no Mikoto and Kashima Amatarirake no Mikoto (child deity of Takemikazuchi no Mikoto). The founding is unknown, but the characters for "Kashimamiko Shrine" first appear in 859 (Jogan 1).
