About this place
Kanahebisui Shrine is a shrine located in Iwanuma, Miyagi. Its former shrine rank was non-ranked shrine (mukakusha). It enshrines Kanahebi Okami (Mizuhayame no Mikoto) as its principal deity. In addition, Onamuchi no Mikoto and Sukunabikona no Mikoto are enshrined as co-enshrined deities. As a subsidiary shrine, Kanahebi Benzaiten, a water deity, is enshrined. At the Yama no Yashiro (Okuni-sha) on nearby Tsutsuji-yama, Onamuchi no Mikoto is enshrined. The year of founding and other details of this shrine are unknown, but it has been revered since ancient times as a deity related to water. The following origin story is handed down about the shrine's name.
