About this place

Yokoyama Fudoson is a Soto sect Buddhist temple in Tsuyamacho, Tome, Miyagi. Its temple name is Daitokuji. According to tradition, the temple began as a small hall (now the Okunoin) built in 1156 (Hogen 1) to enshrine a Buddhist statue that had drifted from Baekje, and its founder is said to be Tachibana no Chizen. The Fudo Hall stands at the foot of a mountain thickly overgrown with Tsuyama cedars. The principal image is a solid gold statue of Fudo Myoo about 5 cm high, said to be the work of Kukai (Kobo Daishi), which is enshrined inside a wooden Fudo Myoo statue.
