About this place
Aratate Shrine is a shrine in Mitai, Takachihocho, Nishiusuki District, Miyazaki Prefecture. Its two main deities are Sarutahiko no Mikoto and Ame no Uzume no Mikoto, and it also enshrines Otoshi no Kami, Sakoten'man, and the ancestor of the Korogi family who live in the area. Sarutahiko no Mikoto is recorded in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki as the god who guided the descent of the heavenly grandson and is known as the god who opens the way; Ame no Uzume no Mikoto is likewise recorded in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki as the goddess who danced merrily when Amaterasu Omikami hid in the heavenly rock cave.
