About this place
Sano Shrine is a shrine in Takaharu, Nishimorokata District, Miyazaki Prefecture. Its former shrine rank was prefectural shrine, and it later became a separate shrine of Miyazaki Jingu, a Kanpei Taisha. It is now once again an independent shrine and a Beppyo shrine of the Association of Shinto Shrines. It is one of the six Kirishima Gongen shrines. Its main deity is Kamuyamato Iwarebiko no Sumeramikoto (Emperor Jimmu), with Ahiratsuhime no Mikoto, Amatsuhiko Hononinigi no Mikoto, Konohanasakuyahime no Mikoto, Hikohohodemi no Mikoto, Toyotamahime no Mikoto, Ugayafukiaezu no Mikoto and Tamayorihime no Mikoto enshrined alongside. The shrine's name comes from Emperor Jimmu's childhood name, 'Sano no Mikoto'.
