About this place
Kuroshima Cathedral is a church and its sanctuary of the Catholic Diocese of Nagasaki on Kuroshima, Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture. Its formal name is Kuroshima Church, and it also has the alternative names Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and Church of the Heart of Jesus. It is designated a National Important Cultural Property. Kuroshima, the largest island of the Kujukushima islands, about 10 km west of the mainland of Sasebo, was home to many hidden Christians who had moved there to escape persecution in the Edo period.
