About this place

Wakamiya Inari Shrine is an Inari shrine in Irabayashi, Nagasaki, Nagasaki Prefecture. It is close to the place where the Kameyama Shachu is said to have been (now the Kameyama Shachu Memorial Hall), and Sakamoto Ryoma and other patriots of the late Edo period are said to have visited it. According to the shrine's records, it was founded in 1673 (Enpo 1) when the town official Wakasugi Kisanta moved the Inari Okami, the guardian deity of Kusunoki Masashige that he had enshrined in his own house, to the present site. In 1736 (Genbun 1), the Nagasaki magistrate Hosoi Inaba no Kami Yasuaki built a new approach and rebuilt the shrine buildings.
