About this place
Daijoin Manmyoji is a Buddhist temple (Shingon sect, Omuro school) in Unzen, Obamacho, Unzen, Nagasaki Prefecture. Its mountain name is Unzenzan. A 5-metre Shaka Nyorai is enshrined and can be viewed by anyone, while the principal image, Dainichi Nyorai, is enshrined in the main hall. 701 (Taiho 1) - Founded by Gyoki (tradition). The Shimenmiya was enshrined at the same time (the origin of the present Onsen Shrine). 778 (Hoki 9) - Burned down; rebuilt with donations from within Hizen Province. 931 (Shohei 1) - Burned down. Rebuilt as a temporary hall.
