About this place
Asato Hachimangu is a shrine in Asato, Naha, Okinawa Prefecture. It is one of the Eight Ryukyu Shrines and was an unranked shrine under the Meiji modern shrine ranking system. It is the only Hachimangu among the eight shrines and enshrines Emperor Ojin, Empress Jingu and Tamayorihime no Mikoto. In the 'Origin of the Transfer' in the Hachiman Daibosatsu section of the 'Ryukyu-koku Yuraiki, Volume 11, Origins of the Mikkyo Temples', completed in 1713 (Kangxi 52, Shotoku 3 in the Japanese calendar), the founding of this shrine is placed in the Tenjun era (1457-1464), and the following tradition is recorded about its beginning.
