About this place
Shikina Shrine is a shrine in Naha, Okinawa Prefecture. It is one of the Eight Ryukyu Shrines and was an unranked shrine under the Meiji modern shrine ranking system. The 'Iro Setsuden' records that Shikina Shrine was founded because the deity proved effective in curing the illness of the eldest son of King Sho Gen. It was destroyed by fire in the Battle of Okinawa and rebuilt in 1968.
