About this place
Tojinbaka (Chinese Tomb) is a cemetery at Kannonzaki in Ishigaki, Okinawa Prefecture. It was built in 1971 (Showa 46) to console the Chinese coolies who were victims of the Robert Bowne incident of 1852 (Xianfeng 2). The incident that caused the deaths of the Chinese is called the 'Robert Bowne incident' and the 'Ishigakijima Tojinbaka incident'.
