About this place
Takyoji was a Shingon sect Daigo school temple in Takeho, Aoi Ward, Shizuoka, Shizuoka. It is now abandoned, and only the Kannon hall remains. Its mountain name is Zuishozan. It was Temple No. 15 of the Suruga Thirty-Three Kannon pilgrimage. The principal image is Senju Kannon, a hidden Buddha that is shown to the public every August. According to the "Takeho-ji Hennen", it was founded in 662 (Hakuho 13) by Dosho, and restored in 723 (Yoro 7) by Gyoki (a disciple of Dosho). At that time, rice ears grew in the pond beside the temple despite it being spring, so it was called Takeho-ji (ear-rising temple).
