About this place
Amidaji is a Kegon-sect temple in Mure, Hofu, Yamaguchi Prefecture. The principal image is Amida Nyorai. It is known as the hydrangea temple. It is said to have been founded in 1187 (Bunji 3) by Chogen of Todaiji as the Suo Bessho of Todaiji. The head priest of Amidaji served as the provincial governor of Suo Province. It burned down in 1484 (Bunmei 16) but was rebuilt with the support of the Ouchi clan. It once had many sub-temples.
