About this place
Yamaguchi Daijingu is a shrine in Yamaguchi, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Its former shrine rank was prefectural shrine. It was founded in 1520 (Eisho 17) by Ouchi Yoshioki, the 30th head of the Ouchi clan, who transferred the divine spirit of Ise Jingu. In June 1508 (Eisho 5), Ouchi Yoshioki escorted the former shogun Ashikaga Yoshitane, who had fled to Yamaguchi, to Kyoto, and afterwards stayed in Kyoto for eleven years, carrying out the shogunate's government as deputy to the kanrei.
