About this place
Kawaguchi Asama Shrine is a shrine in Kawaguchi, Fujikawaguchiko, Minamitsuru District, Yamanashi. It is a candidate for an Engishiki-listed shrine (Myojin Taisha), and its former shrine rank was prefectural shrine. It is one of the Asama shrines found across Japan. Its religious corporation name in the register is Asama Shrine. It stands on the northern foot of Mount Fuji, backed by the Misaka Mountains and facing Mount Fuji across Lake Kawaguchi. It is registered as a World Cultural Heritage site as part of the component assets of 'Fujisan, Sacred Place and Source of Artistic Inspiration'. Its registered name is 'Kawaguchi Asama Shrine'.
