About this place
Kanazakura Shrine is a shrine at 2347 Mitakecho, Kofu, Yamanashi. It is in the mountains of the upper Arakawa River in the northern part of the city. It is said to have been founded as a main shrine on Mount Kinpu in 465, in the reign of Emperor Yuryaku, a shrine of mountain worship and the central shrine of Kinpu faith (Mitake faith). Until the end of the Edo period it was called Zao Gongen, and in a record of origins of 1868 (Keio 4) it is called "Kanazakura Shrine". Around it were new-style oshi residences and pilgrim lodgings, and Mitake Village formed a temple town.
