A gorge at Asuke in Toyota, where about 4,000 maples colour the Tomoe River in autumn.
About this place
Korankei is a gorge formed by the Tomoe River, a tributary of the Yahagi River, in Asuke-cho, Toyota, Aichi Prefecture. It is known for autumn leaves, dogtooth violet flowers and more, and bustles as a tourist spot in autumn. It is said to have begun in 1634 (Kan'ei 11), when Priest Sanei of Kosekiji temple in Asuke planted maple and cedar trees along the approach from the Tomoe River to Kosekiji. Later, many more maples were planted and walking paths made by local residents and others, giving the present scene.
