About this place
Atsuta Jingu is a shrine in Jingu, Atsuta Ward, Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. It is a Meijin Taisha and the third-ranked shrine of Owari Province. It is a shrine closely tied to Japanese mythology that enshrines the Kusanagi sword, and from ancient times it drew worship as Atsuta-sha. It stands at the southern end of the Atsuta Plateau in southern Nagoya. In the past it was on a cape jutting out into Ise Bay, but with the advance of land reclamation around it, that appearance can no longer be seen. It is known as the shrine that enshrines the Kusanagi no Tsurugi, one of the Three Sacred Treasures.
