About this place
Himakajima is an offshore island in Mikawa Bay. It belongs to Minamichita, Chita District, Aichi Prefecture, and lies about 3 km east of the southern tip of the Chita Peninsula. The entire island is included in Mikawa Bay Quasi-National Park. According to the 2015 (Heisei 27) census, the population was 1,896 in 607 households. The terrain is flat, with a maximum elevation of 30.2 m. It promotes itself for tourism as the 'Island of Octopus and Pufferfish'. Together with Shinojima and Sakushima, it is called the 'Three Islands of Mikawa Bay' or the 'Three Islands of Aichi'.
