About this place
Sakushima is an offshore island floating in Mikawa Bay. Administratively it belongs to Nishio, Aichi Prefecture, and the entire island is included in Mikawa Bay Quasi-National Park. As of April 1, 2020 (Reiwa 2), the population is 196, of whom 108 are elderly, an aging rate of about 55%. In the past it was also written in other ways, including Sako-jima and Sakon-no-shima. Together with Himakajima and Shinojima, it is called the 'Three Islands of Mikawa Bay' or the 'Three Islands of Aichi'.
