About this place
Wakeoe Shrine is a shrine located in Yasui 4-chome, Kita Ward, Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. It is identified with 'Wakeoe Shrine' in Yamada District, Owari Province, in the Engishiki Jinmyocho, though, as described below, there is a differing theory. Until the Edo period it was called Rokusho Daimyojin and was the guardian deity of Yasui Village, Kasugai District. The early Edo-period 'Kanbun Muramura Oboegaki' states 'Yasui Village... Rokusho Daimyojin... tax-exempt from earlier times.' At that time the Inagaki family served as head priests. The date of its founding is unknown.
