About this place
The Tokugawa Art Museum is a private museum in Tokugawa-cho, Higashi Ward, Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. It is operated by the Tokugawa Reimeikai, a public interest incorporated foundation. It was founded in 1935 by Tokugawa Yoshichika, the 19th head of the Owari Tokugawa family. Centered on the 'Sunpu Owakemono' (the relics of Tokugawa Ieyasu) inherited by Tokugawa Yoshinao, the ninth son of the first shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu and the first of the Owari Tokugawa, it holds about 10,000 daimyo items handed down in the Owari Tokugawa family, which was the foremost of the Three Tokugawa Houses throughout the Edo period.
