About this place
A shrine said to have been founded in the reign of Emperor Monmu and still revered as the chief guardian shrine of Nagoya. In May, the annual festival Wakamiya Matsuri, known as one of Nagoya's three great festivals and with a history of 300 years, takes place. In 1610 (Keicho 15), Tokugawa Ieyasu moved the shrine to its present site when building Nagoya Castle and designated it the chief guardian shrine.
