Overview
An open-air bath facing the Sea of Japan. The tubs sit at the water's edge and turn crimson at sunset.
About this place
A hot spring in Fukaura, Aomori. It has a gourd-shaped mixed-gender open-air bath merging with the sea, where you can bathe while watching the sunset at dusk. With a round open-air bath for women only and indoor baths separated by gender, there are four baths in all, all using free-flowing source water. The water is brownish from iron and salt content, and day-trip bathing ends at 4 p.m.
